a) Purpose & Target Audience (INFO)
The Purpose of the BBC News website, is to inform and educate its audience. It has specific articles aimed at news throughout different counties and area's of the countries, and also world wide. it covers many different types of news ranging from politics to economical. the target audience for the BBC News website are male & females aged from 35-60
b) Visitor Needs
On the BBC News website, it attracts people to view the website by having the main and popular articles of the day displayed on the front page and also has the search bar to then search for current news articles seen on tv and wanting to further investigate the subject and other similar articles
c) Information flow/ user experience
The user interface for the BBC is exceptional compared to other websites as it takes little ease to access main articles as they are displayed on the home page which is the first that you can access. also the BBC have made it easier by including a search bar in their website so that their audience can find articles and vlogs from the past or many other subjects.
d) Features
The BBC has many features. simular to many websites, there is a search bar, navigation bar and a drop down menu. Theres feature make it a lot easier for the audience to navigate around the website. There's a header which is where all these features are placed and the BBC logo is there as well which shows the audience a first impression of the website. Due to it being quite a seriously established website, the general organisation is very professional, therefore connoting an efficient and formal tone to the this professionally established website. There can normally be video/audio content within this website as some articles include videos to go along with the text. This therefore means that there will also be control buttons in order to play/pause the video. Also there is a feature where you can create a BBC iD, which is interactive and possibly a social feature.
e) Benefits
The producers get the benefit of getting through to a huge market 24/7 therefore giving them lots of publicity and a positive reputation by having the website available all the time around the world.
BBC website engages, entertains and informs people, which is the benefit for the audience, as they are getting a service that provides those things. but sadly the website is not free as the funding comes from the government and TV licence fee's
c) Content
The BBC website was founded in 1994, and the content/design has changed drastically throughout the years with many different layouts. Currently the website has a navigation bar which is used as the header along with the search bar, when the older version only happened to have the search bar, then category options down the left hand side. The navigation bar along the top connotes a classier theme and suggests that the website is definitely more formal and modern. One thing which is very clear from the image of the older web page is that the size of web page has gotten a lot bigger, to then fit the screen resolution as they have grown over the years, therefore meaning that nowadays you can fit more content on the homepage of a website. The hyperlinks are also not noticeable on the newer webpage, whereas you can clearly see the blue hyperlinks included on the older webpage as the format was quite hard to change. One of the things that has remained quite constant is the logo, staying as three separate boxes with the letters 'BBC' in each.
